The procedure removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with large breast.
Large breast can cause discomfort including irritation below the breast, back and shoulder pain. A breast reduction can result in a more natural and balance with the overall form and shape of your body resulting in confidence and improving your quality of life. During your consultation Dr. Acharya, will do a complete examination, including breast measurements this will assist you and the doctor to determine the amount of breast tissue that needs to be removed to determine size, shape and what would benefit you the most.
With any surgical procedure there are risk. These may include loss of sensation, scarring, and usual risks associated with surgery. Dr. Acharya will also go over the risks associated with a breast reduction.
Breast reduction surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. The breast reduction operation takes about three hours. You will be instructed on how to properly care for your incisions to limit scaring. Expect to feel less sensation in your nipples, as they can take up to a year or more to recover. You will be seen back in the office in 2 to 3 days. You will then be able to shower. For the first 4 weeks after breast reduction surgery, you will be asked to wear a comfortable bra without an underwire, such as a sports bra. Although you will feel very well and be up and about on the second or third day after surgery, it is important for you to limit your physical activity for optimal recovery and healing. You should avoid any heavy lifting or exercise for at least 4 weeks.
